The two claws seem to - they don't touch, they don't meet, they seem to stop about ten feet away from each other, and a large spectral bear rises up with just these skeletal claws attached to its ghostlike form.

History[]

Honeyslayer was a normal bear living in the vicinity of Gunnacarkit, who appears to have had cubs. They were attracted by the smell of baked goods from Solomon Brumby's Bakery and leaned in through the slightly-open window over the cooling rack. The window snapped shut on their claws, creating injuries that caused them to bleed to death.

Either because of the injustice which Honeyslayer perceived regarding their death, because their body was hidden in the basement, or because of the already-haunted nature of the bakery, Honeyslayer's ghost remained attached to their claws and to the bakery.

Characteristics[]

Honeyslayer is seen as the ghost of an unusually large bear, larger even than regular brown bears as their front paws rest some ten feet apart. They are gruff and somewhat simple, but reasonably friendly when Gadai initiates conversation with them, and agrees with her that their death was a murder. They find the idea of Brumby targeting bears to be racist and agree to give the group their name in order that they can improve things for their cubs and other bears in the area.

Episodes[]

Episode 13: Spookaroo Special, The Haunted Bakery Part 2[]

The skeleton of a bear is identified among the remains in the basement. It is noted that it is missing two of its claws.

After dealing with two other ghosts, Gadai, McKenzie and Plank initially see two large skeletal claws stuck in the window above the cooling racks in the bakery, and Gadai guesses that they belong to the bear downstairs. Gadai opens the window, and it slams shut again as the two claws skirt around the group and reunite, several feet apart, on the other side of them. The ghost of the bear appears and stands ready to attack.

Gadai uses Speak With Animals to convince the bear that they want to help and to avenge them, claiming that Brumby was targeting other bears as well. The bear says that they tell them their name if someone returns their claws to the rest of their body, but that they don't know where their body is. Gadai assures them that the group will, and that they will give them a proper burial as well.

The bear volunteers the story of their death and grants Gadai their claws so that Plank can return them to the skeleton in the basement. The bear feels them connect, and offers up the name Honeyslayer.

Trivia[]

  • Zach is aware throughout that Plank does not understand the conversation that Gadai and Honeyslayer are having, but Suzanne and Luke briefly forget and having McKenzie and the bear directly talking to each other.
  • While Luke uses a gruff and masculine voice, nobody directly uses any pronouns for Honeyslayer either in dialogue or in description.
