Chatterpillars are a type of caterpillar used for long-distance communication due to their telepathic nature. When placed in someone's ear, they burrow through to the brain. The user can then concentrate hard on the chatterpillar in their brain and speak aloud, and the chatterpillar will rely the message telepathically to the other users.
Making strong eye contact with the chatterpillar before placing it in the ear makes the connection stronger. Despite Wenzo's misunderstanding, they do not need to be licked.
Early on in usage, before the user becomes skilled in using the chatterpillar, the chatterpillar may send on of its own thoughts along with the user's.
They first appear in Episode 4: The Mystery of the Bewdy Hill Beauties Part 1! as Wenzo buys them for himself, Gadai, McKenzie and Plank. A set of four cost one thousand gold pieces.
